...from my cubicle.
This has been one of those weeks where I started out waaaay behind on Monday and I still can't see how I'll ever get it all done. I listened to a great Andy Stanley podcast the other day about "Margin". He talked about a lot of the spiritual aspects of having margin or breathing room in our lives and gave some examples of God-given margin- such as the way he created us with a need to sleep and the need to stop to eat...we weren't designed to go non-stop all the time. Then God even commanded us to take a day of rest, give a tithe, and essentially structure parts of our life with a little barrier that says "I could do this, but I won't. I'm going to leave a little bit of margin."
It all sounds great, and inside I know it's true, but how do I go about it when I'm facing all sorts of deadlines and dilemmas? Any suggestions? I guess taking a moment to daydream about being at the beach has been my "moment of margin" for the last few minutes. But now it's time to snap out of it and get back to work.
*In an attempt to practice what I preach I left a little extra margin around the pictures rather than just cramming them all together.

Great Post! I really needed this reminder.
I've been recently convicted to renew my observance of Sabbath, in all sorts of ways (beyond just the Sunday sabbath, but also that). Part of this came from reading a wonderful book called The Rest of God by Mark Buchanan. I highly recommend it, but it's good for a slow read, a long savor. Lauren Winner has a good chapter on Sabbath in her Mudhouse Sabbath book, another great read.
I'd love to know which sermon it was that you listened to and maybe get the link, so I can listen online!
Praying for you guys! Had some poffertjes today and thought of you!
Christ the King, Lynden did a whole series on "margin" and Dad and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The one comment that was made has really stuck with us..."standing too close to the edge makes everyone around you very nervous". So stand back a bit, son...
Good for you for taking a moment of margin to look at that beach scene. Something to look forward to!
We love you....to the moon,
Dad and Mom
By the way, you can download the messages or even watch them live by going to www.northpoint.org/messages
Andy Stanley is probably one of my favorite communicators right now, he has a real conversational style that has you applying the message to your own life even as he speaks.
