The Divine Disruption...

The message at our church today was called "The Divine Disruption." The service started with the question: "If God revealed His big dream for our lives, would we embrace it?" Because often it just doesn't look anything like we had imagined it would look. So instead, many times we choose to settle for living out our own personal aspirations instead of being a part of God's big dream for our lives.

Our pastor focused on the story of the nativity, and just how different Mary & Joseph's lives became when they said "Yes" to God. Clearly all of the major life change that God was bringing about wasn't in the plans of this not-yet-married couple from the sleepy little town of Nazereth. Most of us can remember back to the big plans and dreams we had as newlyweds too- a house, cars, vacations, success. But if Mary and Joseph chose to obey, they would see God's plans lived out in their life. Those kinds of decisions are never easy, but in leaving your comfort zone and stepping out in faith, you just might change the world.

We're still amazed at how big of a step of faith it was for them to allow God to work in their lives in that way-you have to remember that they didn't see the whole picture like we do when we read the story in the Bible. It was also interesting to see how Mary and Joseph went from feeling fearful and being "greatly troubled" at the start (Luke 1:29), to feeling overwhelmed by God's blessings in the end.

In Luke 1:45-48 (CEV) Elizabeth says to Mary: The Lord has blessed you because
you believed that he will keep his promise.

...then Mary says: With all my heart I praise the Lord, and I am glad because of God my Savior. He cares for me, his humble servant. From now on, all people will say "God has blessed me."

So with that perspective in mind (God's "Divine Disruption" could turn into one of His greatest blessings), grab your kleenex and get ready to see what God can do when you allow him to disrupt your Life. The clip is of an incredible boy named Patrick Hughes and his incredible Dad. Starting out, their lives looked anything but incredible- instead they looked more like a tragedy. But they chose to live the life that God gave them to the fullest, and now thousands of people get to see it lived out each week at the University of Louisville football games and about 20 Million people witnessed it last Sunday night on ESPN.
