Love Jesus though Haiti...

Unless you prefer to only watch news segments (not on C-Span) about health-care reform or the saga of Jay Leno vs. Conan vs. NBC, you've undoubtedly heard at least something about the 7.0 earthquake that rocked the country of Haiti yesterday afternoon.

We urge you to take just 60 seconds to view this photoblog: www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/01/earthquake_in_haiti and then take 60 seconds more to do something about it.

WARNING: Many of these photos are graphic. They should make you cringe. PLEASE don't let it stop you from viewing them! Just because we don't look, doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

Go view the pictures now, then come on back...

Okay, now that you've come face-to-face with those images, pray and ask God to help you be part of the healing and rebuilding of that country. Two excellent organizations you can partner with are Compassion International and Childcare Worldwide. Both groups already have boots on the ground and both groups have an incredible reputation for using funds with integrity and for working tirelessly to meet tangible needs while proclaiming the love and hope of Jesus.

Please don't think for a second that just because you don't have much to give, that you shouldn't even bother. You can give a $10 in ten seconds by texting the word "Disaster" to 90999 on your cell phone. That simple task will donate $10 to Compassion International. You can also follow this link to give Childcare Worldwide in a matter of two simple mouse clicks.

Lastly, pray again, and ask God to prepare you to sponsor one of the orphans that will undoubtedly come from this disaster. We usually have about 400 unique visitors a month at this blog. We're praying that God will cause at least 200 of them to sponsor an orphan.

Please don't wait to do something. Imagine if this was your daughter...

If that was your daughter, how long would you wait before helping her?  How many hours or days would you want her to wait before getting a cup of clean drinking water, some medical care, or a safe place to sleep at night? I know you would run to her and you wouldn't let anything stop you from helping her. Please don't wait. Do something now.
"Jesus says: 'I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.' "Then these righteous ones will reply, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?' "And the King will say, 'I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!'" -from Matthew 25:34-40 *We believe you can see Jesus in every one of those photos of Haiti
We'd love to hear from you in the comments:
  1. If you know of another reputable organization working in Haiti, please let us know.
  2. Have you ever done humanitarian aid work after a natural disaster? What was your experience?

Stirring pictures. Johanna had placed these on our blog earlier today. I just got through showing them to Josiah and Ethan, and we are now going to spend some time in prayer for the people of Haiti. My boys said they want to be missionaries, and fly a plane to Haiti to go and help! Sweet attitudes!
